To allow members of the New Bedford Yacht Club and Sailing School Program students to have access to boats in order to improve skills or for racing in regattas. Charter privileges are is intended to provide boats simply to “fool around in”. It is expected that boats and equipment will be returned in the same or better condition than when they were checked out. To further this aim, the following guidelines have been adopted by the New Bedford Yacht Club.
Club boats may be skippered or crewed by junior members, member's children or participants of the junior sailing program of the New Bedford Yacht Club. Mercuries and 420's may also be skippered and crewed by adults who are club members. Lifejackets must be worn at all times.

This minimal fee is to help defray the cost of maintaining the boats. Any loss or damage to a club owned boat other than normal wear shall be the responsibility of the renter. Payment is required prior to rental, members may charge this to their club account. A pre-season damage deposit of $300 will be required for any boat.

Launch Fee

For Mercury use: If the renter does not have seasonal launch service, an additional charge of $5.00 is required.

Contract
|
The junior member and his/her parents must read and abide by the rules and responsibilities set forth in these guidelines. The sailing boat charter contract must be signed and returned with the pre-season deposit before the boat is chartered. A completed NBYC liability and medical release form (if not already on file) is also required.

Eligibility to Sail
|
The Program Director will evaluate each skipper and crew's experience and determine eligibility to charter a club boat.

Boat Check Out/In
|
before the boat is turned over to the renter, it will be inspected by both a club employee and the renter. Condition of the boat is noted at this time and both parties sign off on the check list. Once this check list has been signed, the renter becomes totally responsible for the boat in question. NBYC will not take responsibility for the boat until the boat has been signed back into the club and inspected by a club employee.
Use of boats at New Bedford Yacht Club - Boats may sail only in Padanaram Harbor. All boats must be returned and put away prior to dusk or at such other time as designated by the Program Director.

Loss of Privilege

The Program Director shall evaluate the use of a club boat according to the questions listed below. If the boat is returned in a condition such that the answer for any question is not acceptable, any or all of the parties involved in the use of the boat may have their privileges suspended for the remainder of the summer. Responsibility for the boat is given equally to both skipper and crew.
 Was the boat checked in and out in a timely manner?
 Was the boat used properly and in a seaman-like manner?
 Was the boat returned with any broken or missing parts, not reported?
 Was the boat and all its parts cleaned properly?
 Was the boat and all its parts stored properly?
 How were the renter's sportsmanship, motivation and attitude?

To reserve a boat for an evening, weekend or regatta use, permission must be obtained from the Program Director.
Reservations for evening use must be made twenty four (24) hours in advance, and for weekend use permission must be obtained no later than 5:00PM on Thursday prior to the weekend. For regatta use, boats will be reserved on a first come first served basis no later than forty eight (48) hours to the boat departing the club grounds. All reservations will be solely at the discretion of the Program Director.
No boats are available when Sailing School is in session. No boats may be picked up for charter during Sailing School hours.

Instructor Use
|
Instructors may use the club boats under the same guidelines described above with the permission of the Program Director, provided such use does not interfere with the use of the boats by members. This privilege is extended to current instructors as a benefit of the job.
