Junior Championship
Series
Races for juniors are held in 420s, Optimists, and Lasers on Thursday afternoons throughout the junior sailing season.
Eligibility - Any sailing school participant. This series is designed to promote racing experience skills specifically for Opti II, III/LTR, Race and 420 LTR sailors. All interested sailors are required to sign up in the Sailing School office weekly. Boats will be assigned on a first come, first serve basis. Parents should plan on their children completing sailing, instruction and pizza by 6:30pm.
Fee - There is a $30 charge for the series (includes use of boat, pizza and soda each week).
Prizes - Will be awarded at Awards night.
Junior Regatta
NBYC will host its own Junior Regatta at the Club on Saturday, June 28th and Sunday, June 29th followed by awards and a cookout - details to follow.  Students in Optimist 3/LTR, Optimist Race and 420 Race are encouraged to participate. 420 LTR sailors may also participate if boats are available.  
Equipment
Personal Floatation Devices (PFDs, life preservers) are required and must be U.S. Coast Guard approved. Closed toe, rubber-soled, non-skid boating shoes or aqua socks are required. Tennis shoes or sneakers are a good alternative.
Sunscreen, hat, water bottle, jacket, a whistle on a lanyard (string), sunglasses, towel and change of clothes are strongly recommended.
Lockers
A limited number of open lockers (cubbyholes) are available. However, we recommend that each student stow all personal items in a duffel bag or backpack. Please make sure to write your child’s name on all items with a permanent marker. Bicycles must be locked at all times. The Club will not be responsible for lost or stolen bicycles or articles.
Rack Space
Rack Space is available for any individually owned Optimist that is used in the program
Lunch
New Bedford Yacht Club offers "The Snack Bar" for dining. Members, guests and students will be able to purchase lunch and sit either on the porch or under the tent. (Open 11:30 AM - 2:00 PM)
Check-in/Check-out Policy
There will be a daily check-in checkout procedure for all students. It is necessary for parents to inform the Director of the mode of transportation that their child will be taking to and from the sailing program. (i.e. Walker, Biker, Parent Pick-up)
Parent Handbook
An informational guide to sailing and our program will be mailed to first time students and are also available at the New Student Orientation (Friday, June 15th) and “Meet the Instructors' Night” (Tuesday, June 19th).
Junior Membership
NBYC Junior Membership for children ages 12 - 23 years is highly recommended. This allows Junior Members to use Club facilities out of Sailing School hours of operation and attend other Club and Junior Social Activities - For information concerning Junior Memberships please contact the Club office at 508-997-0762.
Junior Activites Committee
This is a separate committee, which organizes junior activities. Check the bulletin board outside the Junior Room for information and schedule of events.
