This welcome is extended to new and old members, visiting yachtsmen and those of you who might be interested in joining the New Bedford Yacht Club. And Yacht Club it is! We have over 600 members whose primary interest is boating. This includes the youngest that are in our Sailing School or part of the family crew.
The solid center of the yacht club is the boat owners who use our safe harbor as a place to keep their floating summer homes and fishing machines. There are not just a few of us who love sailboat racing; we have a multi-class Wednesday night series and many local regattas to try and win. One of these is the Buzzards Bay Regatta which we host every other year, this year it is here in our harbor. It is rough on our forgiving neighbors as 400 boats and 2000 sailors descend on Padanaram for the first weekend in August.
Visiting yachtsmen are welcome. For a modest fee, we will direct you to a mooring or a slip, provide launch service, and make the facilities of the yacht club available to you. We welcome fleet cruises, if your club is planning a fleet visit to Padanaram Harbor, we ask that you follow the guidelines on our Visitor Information page.
Our dining room and bar are open Wednesday through Sunday in the summer months. When the weather turns the other way, our Hammond Room and showers are available for your use during Club hours.
For those of you who are interested in joining, we have a small waiting list of about a year. Just call the yacht club for more information.
Good luck and may the wind always blow out of the southwest.
Irving W. Dingwell, Commodore
