NBYC has a long and rich history of sailboat racing for all ages and levels of experience, dating back to its earliest days in 1877.

The race program currently includes a combination of traditional one-design and PHRF handicap racing on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, several pursuit and distance races throughout the season, and the annual New Bedford Junior Regatta and NBYC Annual Regatta in July and August, respectively. It has also hosted numerous one-design national and regional qualifiers and championships, and continues to actively seek other competitive racing events to bring to NBYC.

The Club's facilities and location are ideal for racing with immediate access to the open waters of Buzzards Bay and its notoriously reliable southwesterly winds. NBYC's well-credentialed Race Committee is dedicated and outstanding, and combined with the facilities and racing infrastructure, is the envy of many other clubs. The Clubhouse serves as the venue for post-race gatherings, including Wednesday night racing dinner, awards and fun.

Race Awards

The Club has established numerous Perpetual Racing Trophies over its long history, most of which are awarded annually for long distance, weekly and monthly events at a special Race Awards dinner celebration each year.

Race Committee

Volunteering as a Race Committee member is a great way to meet other members, have fun on the water, and get trained in the nuances of committee work. Many members in Club leadership roles began their involvement at the Club through Race Committee.
